Hiring A-OK Mechanical in Lansing MI. was the worst contractor experience ever. This was supposed to be a simple furnace and humidifier installation in a 20 year old home. We were notified that the furnace had been received at A-OK Mechanical and that they were ready to install it. After A-OK Mechanical rescheduled 3 times they finally started the installation on the 4th appointment date. Initially it took 4 days of working long hours to install the furnace and humidifier. We had to call the installer back a 5th time to address multiple issues with the installation. All of the issues were not corrected so we had the owner of the company come over for a 6th attempt to correct the issues and meet with the inspector. A-OK Mechanical then made 2 more visits to the house to correct the problems identified by the inspector. Issues: On the first day of the installation, after the old furnace had been unhooked, we received a phone call from the owner of the company saying that he did not have the high efficiency furnace that we ordered and that he would give us a lower efficiency furnace for $100.00 less, we refused the offer. A few minutes later they found the correct furnace and we were told that we would have to pay $250.00 more for the correct furnace with the standard equipment that was on the furnace, we also refused that scam. A-OK Mechanical never scheduled the final inspection as promised, we had to do it. The humidifier did not work, it was assembled incorrectly. The condensation drains were leaking at multiple connections. Thumb nuts were missing on the top of the humidifier. The dampener on the humidifier would not, could not, open. The humidifier was wired incorrectly causing the water to the flow constantly to the humidifier even when the furnace was shut off. There were massive air leaks between the furnace and the central air cooling coils, it was never sealed as you can see by the blowing Crepe Paper. The duct work above the furnace that was fastened to the ceiling was never reattached. The exhaust and intake vents for the furnace that were installed had to be redone/corrected, as seen below in the before and after correction photos. The seal around the incoming gas line to the furnace was never installed, as seen below in the before and after correction photos. The make shift chunks of screens over the exhaust and intake pipes had to be replaced/corrected, as seen below in the before and after correction photos. They were late to the house every day for work, no exceptions. After A-OK Mechanical coming to the house on 8 different occasions for a job that should have been completed in 1, we hired another company at a cost of $350.00 to inspect and complete the installation.

I was referred to them by my home warranty company. They were very professional prompt in getting problem solved and very respectable.

With the cold temps last week, the furnace and hot water heater stopped working at a vacant property that I own. I called A-OK and they came out and fixed the problems right away. They gave me an estimated arrival time and they showed up on time as promised. They provided excellent professional service and their prices were very reasonable. I will refer them to anyone looking for top notch service.

Called on Monday morning because my NEST thermostat started saying no power to Rh wire, they were able to come out the same day about 8 hours later so that was nice. The first place I called couldn’t get anyone out until the next day. Rich came out, charged us $125 and said it was the circuit board for the furnace. He didn’t have one with him, he would need to order the part and he would call me in the morning after 9:00 AM. It sucked he didn’t have the part, but I understand. The next morning came and went, and I called early afternoon to find out what was going on. Rich said he would call to find out the status of the part and call me, a few minutes later he said they had the part, and someone would be on-site before 6:00 PM, the guy apparently went to the wrong place and showed up at my house a few minutes after I talked to Rich – yay me? - not so much. The guy replaced the circuit board but said the furnace wasn’t getting power and he needed to leave to get a Multimeter. That was odd because the night before Rich said the fuse on the circuit board was sparking at him. Whatever, the guy leaves and comes back. I could hear him in the basement coughing, I sent my wife a text message about how much he was coughing – we have a house full of high-risk adults and kids, so we take stuff like that seriously. The guy comes up and says it’s all fixed and it’s $650 (including the original $125 from the night before). I set the NEST to cool, turn it down to 70 and we leave to take the kids to karate. We come home and the house is now 80, the NEST wasn’t controlling anything – I told the NEST to turn the furnace off and it continued to run. We had to turn it off at the furnace. I called Rich, told him what was going on and of course no one could make it back out tonight, but someone will be at my house between 11:00 AM and 1: 00 PM tomorrow. So now we’re into Wednesday, it’s after 1:00 PM and I call Rich to find out what’s going on. He tells me the guy who was at my house yesterday called in sick today because he’s coughing and vomiting – outstanding! I ask him if it’s COVID, he then tells me that he doesn’t think so “one of the girls in the office had something and now we all have a cough”. Seriously?! ARE YOU SERIOUS? You know you’re sick, you know your staff is sick and you’re sending them into people’s homes unmasked? So, Rich tells me the story about how he’s now picking up all the jobs this guy was working on, and he could try to be here between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Rich came out but before he came in, he ran my credit card and charged me $675.94 which was frustrating because the invoice said $650 but I was also just tired of all of the BS and wanted it fixed. He then spent several hours, and eventually got everything working again – only for it to stop working again a few days later. I tried to call Rich back, calls went directly to voicemail and the voicemail box was full. I eventually called Vredevoogd. They came out, said it looks like A-OK didn’t replace the board at all – not a surprise because it stopped working a few days after Rich left and went AWOL. Do NOT trust this man or this company, he is the most dishonest person I have ever met!
