A clean, welcoming studio with a dedicated staff. Classes small enough to allow teachers to observe your progress and attend to your needs. If you've never tried Iyengar yoga you cannot say you know yoga.

Chris is an extraordinary yoga instructor! I've studied at a few different Iyengar studios throughout the USA & Canada and Chris has been the most personable and effective in advancing my understandings of my body, breath and postures. I came to CFIY with a few injuries and Chris always had an option or idea to help me better the postures for my particular body. This place is an absolute must if you're curious about progressing your practice or looking to start a yoga practice!

When I first came to Chris I was a 58 year old man who previously had multiple sports injuries and lower back surgery. I had tried yoga a few times before over the years at other local yoga studios. Each time I left disappointed feeling like the helpless beginner that I was. Despite these unfulfilling attempts I knew that yoga could be good for me if I could just find the instructor/studio who could help me get started and give me the confidence to continue forward. I am so grateful to the friend who referred me to Chris. His kind and compassionate attention to his students combined with his teaching the more traditional method of Iyengar yoga makes him the ideal instructor for novices like me. As we age we too often lament about activities that we can no longer do. With CFIY the opposite has been true for me. In the past 7 years Chris has taught me how to use and understand my body in ways that I never would have imagined. If you have always wanted to learn and practice yoga but haven't because you believe that you're too old, too brittle, too injured, too inexperienced, or all of these things -- PLEASE give Chris and the Center For Iyengar Yoga a try.

I highly recommend the Center for Iyengar Yoga for all who have an interest in connecting body, mind and breath to serve your well-being. Under the instruction of the Center Director, Christopher Briney, everyone can learn to make these vital connections within. No matter your age, perceived physical limitations, Chris will work with you and meet you where you are on your yoga journey. Whether you are a beginner, new to the Iyengar method or advanced and looking to deepen your practice, this is the studio for you. The sessions are like semesters which are great for development of your practice. Drop-in classes are also available for those wanting to give it a try. There is much value in having a teacher who is also a continuing student. The Center Director continues to take classes from Prashant Iyengar and the value is passed on to those fortunate enough to study at The Center for Iyengar Yoga Royal Oak. Classes are also available online. In person classes offer the additional benefit of all necessary equipment being provided including mats. The studio is beautiful and clean. The teaching includes philosophy of yoga and personalized attention to detail as the Director takes the time to get to know you and any physical limitations that may require alternative pose options. Classes at The Center for Iyengar Yoga Royal Oak have a positive health impact that goes beyond the physical.
